I am an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Florida State University. Previously, I was a Senior Research Associate working with Prof. Cecilia Mascolo and an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge. I received the B.E. degree in Software Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi, China in 2016 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science advised by Prof. Zhenjiang Li from City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China in 2020.

My research lies at the intersection of wearable sensing, mobile computing, and artificial intelligence. I develop intelligent mobile and wearable technologies that enable human-centered sensing and computing. My work creates novel systems that deepen our understanding of human behavior, monitor wellness, enhance interactions between people and their environments, and address potential privacy risks. By uncovering insights into individual behavior, health, and interaction patterns, my research advances cutting-edge areas such as mobile health, human-computer interaction, the Internet of Things, and cybersecurity. My goal is to design and develop mobile computing technologies that intelligently respond to real-world needs and meaningfully improve quality of life.

I was named a 2024 N2Women: Rising Star in Computer Networking and Communications (10 global awardees). My work has received the ACM SIGBED China Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award in 2021 (3 national awardees in China), as well as Best Paper Awards at ACM EarComp 2023 and IEEE PerCom 2025 (1/152). I am looking for multiple self-motivated students for Ph.D. or research intern roles starting in Spring/Fall 2026. Please email me (yl25r@fsu.edu) with your CV and transcripts.
