I am an incoming assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Florida State University, with a start date in Fall 2025. I am currently a Senior Research Associate working with Prof. Cecilia Mascolo and an Affliated Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge. Prior to that I was a postdoctoral researcher working with Prof. Zhenjiang Li at City University of Hong Kong (from Oct 2020 to Dec 2021). I received the B.E. degree in Software Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi, China in 2016 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science advised by Prof. Zhenjiang Li from City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China in 2020.
My research lies at the intersection of systems, signal processing, and AI, focusing on developing intelligent mobile and wearable technologies for human-centered sensing and computing. It creates novel mobile systems to deepen and broaden innovative ways for understanding human behavior, monitoring human wellness, facilitating interactions between humans and machines or ambient environments, and addressing potential privacy leakage issues. By gathering insights into individual behavior, health, and interactions, my research advances cutting-edge areas such as mobile computing, mobile health, HCI, IoT, and cybersecurity. My goal is to bring intelligence into everyday wearable devices, transforming them into proactive, responsive partners that enrich and support users’ daily lives.
I was named a 2024 N2Women: Rising Star in Computer Networking and Communications (10 global awardees). My work has received the ACM SIGBED China Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award in 2021 (3 national awardees in China), as well as Best Paper Awards at ACM EarComp 2023 and IEEE PerCom 2025 (1/152). I am looking for multiple self-motivated students for Ph.D. or research intern roles starting in Fall 2025 and Spring/Fall 2026. Please email me (yliu94913@gmail.com) with your CV and transcripts.
